The face lift, or Rhytidectomy, is an indispensable component of facial rejuvenation as it affects the lower two-thirds of the face and the neck and can easily subtract the number of years from a person's appearance while restoring a youthful look.
As signs of aging appear, more and more patients opt for Face lift procedure as it helps in removing excess skin, muscle tightening and repositioning of the underlying tissue to reduce or eliminate those signs like sagging, wrinkling, jowls, and excess fat.
Length of Surgery- Usually two and a half to four hours
Length of Stay-Usually outpatient, overnight stays are usually required in a proper facelift surgery
Scars- Scars get mostly concealed in the hair or in natural facial creases. The most visible scars may, however, be behind ear.
Recovery- There can be an initial mild to moderate discomfort with swelling and bruising lasting for a few days. It may take up to four months for the full effect of the procedure to show up on the patient's face.
Facial rejuvenation has a lot of techniques. In some cases, a simple Lipoinjection of facial wrinkles or grooves provides a more rested and fresh look. In others, the removal of excess skin from the eyelids will be required to provide freshness and decrease the appearance of fatigue. Other patients may require an eyebrow lift or the treatment of frontal wrinkles. Small procedures in the contour of the temples, cheek and auricular contour to tighten the skin of the neck are combined in various techniques ranging from Micro-lift, Minilift to Complete Facelift.
These procedures are a mixture of corrections of excess facial skin that in certain cases also include a muscle lift. The choice will depend on the desire and degree of rejuvenation sought by the patient.
While there is more than 1 technique available to carry out the face lift surgery in Ludhiana, there is no evidence proving that any one technique is better than the other. It all depends on individual’s requirement and the techniques that work best in the hands of a surgeon. Having said that it is important for the aesthetic surgeon to be trained and qualified for performing a variety of surgical and non-surgical procedures so as to be able to give the best results possible.
Different techniques and types of face lift procedures available are as follows:
Traditional Face Lift
A common pattern for incision starts in the temple region within the hair or just under the sideburn, follows natural creases in front of the ear or just inside the ear, and continues behind the ear to end in the hair. If required, a small incision underneath the chin is made to gain further access to the neck.
Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System (SMAS)
The SMAS face lift doesn't only address the superficial top layer of skin but also helps in repositioning and tightening of the underlying tissues layers, which tend to sag with aging. The result is a natural-looking result which is long-lasting as well.
Subperiosteal Face Lift
This technique is performed using an endoscope and is a short scar as well as less expensive technique. Endoscopic surgery minimizes the invasiveness of the procedure and is considered to be a good option for patients with a less amount of excess skin. The approach works well for patients in whom the signs of aging appear pre-dominantly in the upper and the middle facial areas.
Midface/ Cheek Lift
The incisions could be in the temple and inside the mouth, or inside the lower eyelid. The procedure allows the midface soft tissues to be elevated and secured in position that can result in a more youthful appearance.
Suture Suspension Techniques
The non-absorbable sutures designed with barbs, cones, knots are used for the elevation and suspension of soft tissues of the midface. Other devices may also be used for tissue fixation.
This surgery is the one of the most common types of facelift surgeries being performed in today’s time. The small incisions are made around the ears to address the wrinkles and sagging skin on the lower third of the face. The excess tissues are removed and the remaining ones are tightened to restore definition to the chin.
In rounded faces, it is feasible to remove adipose tissue by this procedure. A thin cannula is used that is inserted through a minimal incision, made in the chin or in the contour of the ear lobe.
The result is aesthetically optimal since the cheekbones acquire prominence and the face, in general, looks more attractive. Liposuction requires a bandage on the cheeks for approximately 5 days.
